Scunthorpe Scorpions v Sheffield Tigers preview
HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions will be aiming for 52 points, when they entertain the Sheffield Tigers in the second leg of their Knockout Cup quarter-final clash against their local rivals at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday, 7.30pm).
Scorpions lost 39-51 in the first leg at Sheffield last night, with Jason Garrity crashing out with leg injuries in Heat 6.
Garrity is undergoing X-rays on the injury, while Scorpions have shuffled their resources in his absence tonight.
Rory Schlein will now guest for Steve Worrall at No 1, while Dimitri Berge – the scorer of 16 points at Sheffield last night – will again guest for Stefan Nielsen. Rider replacement will cover Garrity.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We can still win this on aggregate.
“I believe we’ve got the guests who can do the job, while the whole team are up to get a result which would earn them two extra meetings.
“The Sheffield fans will fancy their chances, and I expect a good amount of them to make the short trip up to the Eddie Wright Raceway.
“We need our own fans to turn up in good numbers, and really get behind the boys as we aim to get back those 12 points, and book a spot in the semi-finals.
“The Scunthorpe vs Sheffield meeting earlier this season was a terrific speedway meeting – I had people coming up to me afterwards telling me it was the best meeting they’d seen for years.
“I’m sure that the entertainment level will again be through the ceiling, while hopefully we can also get the result that we are seeking.”
