Garrity concern for Scorpions

HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions suffered a further injury blow last night (Thursday), when Jason Garrity crashed out of their Knockout Cup meeting at Sheffield, with Scorpions going down by 39-51 after being reduced to five riders.
Skipper Garrity was whisked off to hospital by ambulance after a big off in Heat 6, with injuries to his leg and is due to undergo X-rays.
Scorpions started the meeting brightly, leading 13-11 after four races, but had to use both rider replacement and injury rider replacement after Garrity’s crash.
Dimitri Berge was a terrific guest, and finished with four victories to score 16 points from seven rides, and the rest of the team also battled for every point.
Scunthorpe suffered a further moment of ill-fortune in Heat 14, when race-leader Jake Allen pulled up on the final bend and a 3-3 turned into a 5-1 for Sheffield.
Speaking post-meeting, team manager Dave Peet said: “Jason (Garrity) was in a fair amount of pain after his accident, and we’ve got our fingers crossed for him.
“Dimitri Berge was a superb guest and a big thank you to him for his contribution. Once he got going, he was unstoppable.
“We’re still in it, and a 12-point deficit is retrievable for us around the Eddie Wright Raceway. We are still aiming to get through to the next round.”
