Scorpions Up For The Cup!
HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions turn their attentions to the Knockout Cup over the next couple of days – with two massive quarter-final clashes against fierce local rivals Sheffield Tigers.
Scorpions travel to Owlerton for the first leg on Thursday, before staging the second leg at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening (7.30pm).
With both Steve Worrall and Stefan Nielsen still out injured, Scorpions will operate rider replacement for Worrall, while Frenchman Dimitri Berge will guest in place of Nielsen in both fixtures.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “The objective over the next couple of days is simple – to take the aggregate win over the two legs, and gain a place in the semi-finals.
“I’m not going to set a target for the first leg at Sheffield, because we’ll just go into the meeting to win it, like we would any other.
“If that’s not possible, then obviously we want to leave ourselves in a position which sets us up nicely for the second leg at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday.”
Both clubs have had their up-and-downs during 2018, and both will want to progress further in to the competition.
Godfrey adds: “There’s always a little bit of local pride on the line when the two clubs meet, and this will be no different.
“We got one over Sheffield in the Championship Shield earlier in the season by topping our group and eliminating them. We’d love to do that again in the cup, while they’d love to get their own back.
“It’s a welcome break from the league competition, and I do fancy us to go through on aggregate. Dimitri Berge is the best guest at No. 2 that I could find for both meetings – he’s very good around Sheffield and he’s very good around Scunthorpe.”

It will be the first of two Sunday meetings at the EWR in July. The other Sunday meeting that month, against Glasgow on July 22nd, has a start-time of 5pm, designed to fit in with fans from both Scunthorpe and Glasgow travelling back from the British Grand Prix at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium the previous day.
