Scorpions gunning for away points
HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions travel north of the border to Glasgow tonight (Friday, 7.30pm) in a league match, looking for their sixth successive victory in all competitions.
With both Steve Worrall and Stefan Nielsen ruled out through injury, Scorpions bring in former Glasgow skipper Aaron Summers as a guest at No 2 in place of Nielsen. All the Scorpions riders are eligible to take one of Worrall’s rider replacement rides.
Anyone thinking of travelling to Ashfield for the meeting is advised to regularly check Glasgow’s twitter channel. Heavy rain is forecast, but the Glasgow management are hopeful the worst will have passed by early afternoon.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “I feel we can get something out of this meeting.
“Losing Stefan Nielsen on top of Steve Worrall is a massive blow, I’m not going to pretend that it isn’t. Fortunately, it seems Stefan has got a straight break to his leg, so he could be back in weeks rather than months.
“Stefan had been flying in recent weeks and his average for June is 7.15. That means we can bring in former Glasgow rider Aaron Summers as the guest at No 2, even though he’s been riding for Berwick at No 1.
“We want to keep our run going, even though we’re now a couple of men down. I feel we can come away from Glasgow with a point at the very least, although we are capable of coming away from the meeting with a win.”
Expected teams for tonight:
Glasgow Tigers: 1. Richie Worrall, 2. Lewis Kerr, 3. Claus Vissing, 4. Paul Starke, 5. Chris Harris, 6. Jack Thomas, 7. James Sarjeant.
Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Rider replacement for Steve Worrall, 2. Aaron Summers (guest), 3. Josh Auty (pictured), 4. Jake Allen, 5. Jason Garrity (captain), 6. Danny Phillips, 7. Gino Manzares.
