HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions have received a massive blow, with the news that Stefan Nielsen received a broken leg in a crash at Poole on Wednesday evening.

It was initially thought that the 23-year-old Brit had escaped with minor damage to his ankle, after a heavy fall in Heat 12 at Wimborne Road.

But a further X-ray revealed a fracture in the tibia, while Nielsen is awaiting to see if he has also broken his fibia.

Nielsen has scored two paid maximums at the EWR in 2018, including a superb six-ride paid 18 against Redcar. Last week, he topped Scorpions’ scorechart with 11+2 against Workington.

Scunthorpe boss Rob Godfrey said: “I’m absolutely gutted for poor Stefan. He really got himself well set up this season, and he’d been reaping the rewards for that.

“He’s made such a great comeback after missing most of last season through injury, only to suffer further misfortune. I feel for the lad.

“It is a huge blow, because he’s been a key member of the side, and knocked up some superb scores for the Scorpions around the Eddie Wright Raceway.

“I wish Stefan a speedy and trouble-free recovery. In the meantime, we won’t make any rash decisions.”
