Scunthorpe Scorpions v Sheffield Tigers preview
HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking to regain top spot in their Championship Shield group – when they host league champions Sheffield Tigers at the Eddie Wright Raceway this evening (Friday, 7.30pm).
It’s the second of two local derbies on consecutive nights. In the first of those at Sheffield last night (Thursday), Scorpions fell away in the final stages, seeing a 18-12 and 26-22 lead turn into a 38-52 deficit by the end of proceedings at Owlerton.
For tonight’s meeting, Scunthorpe bring in former Scorpion Thomas Jorgensen to guest for the injured Steve Worrall.
Scorpions’ team manager Dave Peet says: “We need a big performance tonight, to hit back from the disappointment of the defeat at Sheffield.
“We came away from that meeting without any points towards our Championship Shield campaign. Tonight I’m targeting for us to score 53 points – one more than Sheffield scored last night. At the very minimum, we must send Sheffield away without any points.”
If Scorpions can send Tigers home without a point, they would regain top spot in the Northern Group.
Last night’s encounter took place in glorious weather and contained some great racing, and Peet predicts more of the same tonight at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
“It’s going to be another terrific encounter between two of the best sides in the entire league”, he says.
“The weather is set fair for another fine and sunny day, and I can’t think of a better place for people to go to tonight than the Eddie Wright Raceway.”
