Peet positive ahead of season
DAVE PEET, the manager of the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions, predicts that his side will be “there-or-thereabouts” when it comes to all the major silverware in the 2018 SGB Championship.
Scorpions kick off their season at Easter Sunday (3pm), when Edinburgh Monarchs are the visitors to Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway in a league match in the Championship. A packed afternoon of action is completed by the 150cc class of the British Youth Championship.
Peet says: “I am very excited for our prospects this season. I believe we have assembled a strong side.
“Steve Worrall is very much a rider on the up, who is riding with confidence and will lead from the front. He will make an excellent captain, and has already had a talk with the lads.
“There is such a good vide in the camp. The team are already in constant communication with each other.
“We do have plenty of strength down the whole side. There’s always an element of luck, but I believe we will be there-or-thereabouts when it comes to all the major silverware. The league, the KO Cup, the Championship Shield, the fours – we want to be in contention in all of them and see what we can win.”
Peet realises that talk of a strong team is one thing, but speedway is not raced on paper, and the proof of the pudding is on the track. That starts with the meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Easter Sunday.
“We’ve heard the hype about the team”, he says, “but it’s now about knuckling down and proving ourselves on the track.
“That starts against Edinburgh on Sunday. We’ve got to put the shift in and get the job done.”
