Scorpions may reveal No 7 on Friday evening
A QUARTET of Scunthorpe Scorpions will be present at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening (7pm), as Scunthorpe Speedway and the STING Fung host ‘An Evening With The 2018 Scorpions’ in the clubhouse, with the proceeds going to the riders.
There is a huge amount of enthusiasm around the club, who are considered one of the favourites for the 2018 SGB Championship, with an all-star line-up.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “Steve Worrall, Jason Garrity, Josh Auty and Jake Allen have all confirmed their attendance for Friday evening.
“In addition, Stefan Nielsen really wants to make it over, but he’s currently working in Denmark. If he can get over for it, he will.
“Our American star Gino Manzares won’t be in the UK until mid-March. But Gino is keen to be part of proceedings and we have a special video message from him.”
Scorpions may well be in a position to reveal their No 7 rider on Friday evening. The rest of the team were put in place in November, leaving 2.11 for the final rider.
Godfrey reveals: “I can’t promise anything as yet, but we are very much hoping to announce our No 7 on Friday.
“I know fans have been very keen to find out the identity of our final rider – the final piece in the jigsaw.
“I think it’s going to be a cracking evening. The night with include interviews with the riders, stories, a Q&A and a memorabilia auction finale. My thanks go to the Paul Duff and the STING Fund for their help in organising the event.
“One piece of memorabilia we’ve got is that we’ve made up an additional 2018 race-jacket. We are very much expecting that 2018 is going to be the year of the Scorpion, and this is a chance for someone to own a piece of it before the season has even begun.
“We’re also planning to auction another couple of race-jackets, I think one has Tai Woffinden’s signature on it, plus a day on the mini-track, a day with team manager Dave Peet, and a day with the referee.
“All the proceeds on Friday go to the riders. We’ve sold a good number of tickets already, but we’d like the place packed out, as with the Pearson and Tatum show in February.”
Tickets are £8 and include pie’n’peas.
The doors open at 7pm, with the show starting at 7.45pm and an interval at 8.30pm, during which the pre-ordered pie and pies will be served. The show recommences at 9pm, and is due to finish around 9.45pm.
