HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are seeking their third win of the season over the Workington Comets when the two clubs do battle at the Eddie Wright Raceway later today (Sunday, 5.30pm).

Scorpions suffered a 41-49 defeat to Edinburgh Monarchs last Sunday, despite holding an eight-point lead with six heats remaining. However, Workington crashed to an even worse home defeat to Edinburgh last night (38-54), and Scorpions have an excellent chance to follow up on the two victories recorded over Comets in August.

Scorpions’ promoter Rob Godfrey says: “I feel we’ve underachieved this season, but Workington are in the same boat.

“They’re not having a great season either, and what that means is that we a great chance to defeat them again.

“We have another opportunity to see what Jake Allen can do around the Eddie Wright Raceway, after his fabulous debut for us last Sunday.

“And the excellent performance by Josh Auty in yesterday’s Premiership Riders’ Individual in Manchester will give Josh a real boost in his confidence as well.

“With the likes of Craig Cook and Thomas Jorgensen in opposition, another cracking afternoon of action is in store. But I want us doing the winning this time.”

The meeting will complete Scorpions’ home meetings in the SGB Championship, with a Knockout Cup clash with Peterborough to come next Friday (September 22nd).
