Open day success
THE EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY was hugely busy over the recent Bank Holiday weekend. On the Sunday, there was a massive amateur meeting, while on the Monday, there was a double header featuring the Scorpions. And, before either of those events, on the Saturday, there was an open day for motocross riders interested in switching over to speedway.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey, also vice-chairman of the BSPA, says: “It was a fantastic day and really worthwhile. We had a good turn-out, and several of the motocross riders were already displaying great potential on a speedway bike and were showing their paces on a 500cc bike around the big track.
“So many recent riders have come through from motocross – just off the top of my head, there’s been Craig Cook, Kyle Howarth, the Worrall twins, Lewis Kerr (pictured), Ashley Birks and Lewis Rose, and there have been others as well, and hopefully we’ve now persuaded a few more to make the switch.
“We also pointed out the finances to those who came along. Speedway bikes are often said to be expensive, and they don’t come cheap, but motocross is far more expensive. Plus there are financial rewards in speedway if you’re successful.”
