GREAT Britain’s Tai Woffinden claimed his first Grand Prix success of the season with a terrific display in Gorzow, Poland.

TheĀ Scunthorpe-born racerĀ dropped just two points from his five programmed rides before settling for a second qualification spot in his semi-final.

While home Pole Patryk Dudek made the best start, it was Woffinden who squeezed through the tightest of gaps on the entrance of lap two to hit the front before charging to his first top spot of the season – in what was also his maiden Grand Final place of the campaign too.

The result leaves Woffinden fourth in the standings, four points behind third placed Dudek and just eight behind World Championship leader Jason Doyle.

Said Woffinden: “It’s a good situation to be in because there’s no pressure on me at all.

“All the pressure is on the three boys above me and realistically it’s their Championship to lose.

“I’m just getting warmed up really and I’m starting to come through like a steam train.”

The result for Woffinden came on a positive day overall for British Speedway as youngster Robert Lambert was also crowned European Under-21 Champion earlier the same day.
