HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions missed out in a closely-fought semi-final stage of the SGB Championship Fours at Peterborough’s East Of England Showground yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

Scorpions finished fourth on 10 points, just four points behind Peterborough, who grabbed the second qualifying spot for the final. Just seven points separated semi-final winners Sheffield and last placed Edinburgh.

A hugely encouraging sign for Scorpions was the form of recent signing Jake Allen (pictured). The 21-year-old Australian dropped just a single point, with a first and a second from his two outings.

After two closely fought semi-finals, hosts Peterborough powered away to comfortably win the final, despite the highly controversial absence of Jack Holder, who was given permission by Panthers to miss the showpiece event to ride in a Polish League match.

Scunthorpe are next in action next Sunday (August 13, 5.30pm), when they host highly-flying Ipswich Witches at the Eddie Wright Raceway. Scorpions will be looking to build on the excellent 50-43 away victory they achieved at Workington on Saturday.
