Stefan blow for Scorpions
HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions have hit have by the bombshell that Stefan Nielsen is almost certainly going to miss the rest of the season with his broken collarbone.
British racer Nielsen, aged 22, was brought into Scorpions’ line-up in late April, in place of the injured Fritz Wallner and scored a fine 10+2 on his debut for Scorpions against Berwick at the Eddie Wright Raceway on April 30.
However, he then sustained his collarbone injury at Ipswich on May 11, in his second outing with the club.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey reveals: “I was hoping Stefan was not far off a return. But when I spoke to him a couple of days ago, I discovered that he would require a further operation.
“He went for a check-up and they told him that the bones had not knitted together.
“Sadly, I think his season may well be over.
“We wish him well – his season never had a chance to get going, so I feel for the lad.
“It’s a big blow for us, because we knew his scoring potential. Everyone could see that in his first appearance for us – he left Nick Morris in his wake and that’s no mean feat around the Eddie Wright Raceway.
“He is a very good rider and I wanted to build a relationship with him, but I hope we will still be his first choice for next year.”
Nielsen’s injury means that the arrangement with Finnish star Tero Aarnio, who was initially brought in place of Nielsen as a temporary replacement, will became a permanent arrangement.
