A SCORCHING DAY lies ahead, both on-and-off the track in North Lincolnshire, as Scunthorpe Scorpions take on the highly-rated Glasgow Tigers at the Eddie Wright Raceway later today (Sunday, 5.30pm).

On the hottest day of the year, Scorpions will be aiming for their first victory of 2017.

It is expected that Ryan Douglas will return, having been ruled out of Friday’s 36-54 defeat at Edinburgh through food poisoning.

Meanwhile, Scorpions bring in Matt Williamson for the injured Fritz Wallner, after the Austrian sustained a suspected broken wrist at Edinburgh. Ex-Scorpion Williamson is in fine form for Workington.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “We need to get our first points on the board in the SGB Championship and we can do it.

“Glasgow have a good side, but if we ride to our capabilities, we can defeat them around the Eddie Wright Raceway.

“It won’t be easy, and we need the supporters to get behind the riders and be our eighth man. I’m sure the action is track will be as red hot as the weather is going to be today. It’s one not to be missed.”

There are 24 heats of action in total, with a nine-race second half including a six-heat Midland Development League challenge match between Scunthorpe and Carmarthen.
