Wallner blow as Scorpions go down at Armadale

HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions’ trump-card Fritz Wallner faces a spell on the sidelines, after sustaining a suspected broken wrist in the 36-54 defeat at Edinburgh’s Armadale stadium last night (Friday).

Wallner sustained his injury in an accident in Heat 2. With the side already using rider replacement for food poisoning victim Ryan Douglas, it meant Scorpions had to complete the rest of the meeting with just five riders.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We think Fritz has broken his wrist.

“Josh Auty took a heavy fall as well (in Heat 13), but I think he’ll be OK. I think Josh was still planning to ride for Leicester tonight (Saturday).

“We’re also hoping that Ryan will be back for the home match against Glasgow on Sunday. We’ve booked Matt Williamson as a guest for Fritz for that meeting – Matt has developed into a very good reserve in the Championship.”
