HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions will stage their first home meeting of the season at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (5.30pm), with Peterborough Panthers in opposition.

And promoter Rob Godfrey is keen for Scorpions – who lost narrowly 42-51 at Peterborough last Friday – to commence their home SGB Championship fixtures with a victory.

He said: “We’ve brought back the same seven riders who finished last season, and that means we can hit the ground running in our early fixtures at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

“Every other year, we’ve had at least one rider who has needed a few weeks to get themselves dialled into the track, but that’s not the case this season.

“We’ve got five home fixtures during April, starting with the Peterborough meeting. If we can pick up the points from those, it will stand us in good stead for the rest of the year.

“I’m sure it’s going to be a cracker of a meeting on Sunday, with the fantastic racing our fans have grown accustomed to. And if we ride the way I know we can, there’s no reason why we can’t come out of the meeting with the result that we are seeking.”

* Team news to follow later in week.
