MDL report: Peterborough v Scunthorpe (challenge)
Friday, March 24, 2017
PETERBOROUGH THUNDERCATS 28
SCUNTHORPE STAGS 7
Challenge Match
A strong Thundercats team were unstoppable on their fast home circuit as they cruised to a resounding victory against our inexperienced Stags, who were further weakened when Luke Whitehead took a frightening tumble in his first ride. Whitehead, who had been in great form during the previous Sunday’s amateur meeting at Scunthorpe, flipped his bike at the start of his first race and then rolled into the path of Kyle Roberts who had no chance of avoiding him. An ambulance ride back to the pits indicated a serious ankle injury but thankfully these fears were dispelled when Luke bravely took to the track for his last ride on Sam Chapman’s spare bike.
It was the first visit to the Peterborough showground for Sheldon and Ditchy while Luke and Sam had only previously been there once each so its no surprise that we couldn’t put more pressure on the home team, but the Stags riders will have learned much and will come away as better riders.
Alex Wilson and William O’Keefe both showed real class and both could do a good job in the National League.
