17. Douglas celebrates

SCUNTHORPE SCORPIONS has become the first club to announce a signing in a brand new era for British Speedway – with popular Australian Ryan Douglas returning for a fifth successive season of action at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

Scunthorpe have announced 23-year-old Douglas straight after the conclusion of the British Speedway Promoters’ Association AGM, with Scorpions one of ten teams in the brand new SGB Championship.

Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “On the back of a very successful AGM, I’m delighted to reveal that Ryan Douglas is returning to Scunthorpe. I can’t think of a better way of starting our team planning for 2017.

“Ryan is an easy rider to deal with, and he had a good season in 2016. He reached the No 1 spot for the first time, and ended the season at the top of our averages.

“He also won the individual event at Peterborough during the fours weekend, which was a very welcome piece for silverware both for Ryan and for the club.

“It’s great to have Ryan back at the Eddie Wright Raceway once more.”
