Scunthorpe Scorpions vs Rye House Rockets preview
FINAL FLING AT THE EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY
HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions welcome Rye House Rockets to the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday (7.30pm), as Scorpions seek to sign off from their 2016 home fixtures in style.
It’s been an up-and-down season for Scorpions, but the team have been in their best form in recent weeks, and moved off the bottom of the table after defeating Redcar by 54-39 last Sunday.
Mid-season signings Michael Palm Toft and Lewis Kerr helped transform the fortunes of the club, while more recent capture Fritz Wallner has proved another great asset.
Along with Josh Auty, Ryan Douglas and Carl Wilkinson, Scorpions have had six riders banging in the points, and Scorpions have scored 54 points in their last three home meetings – against Workington, Newcastle and Redcar.
With No 7 Josh Bailey out for the season with a collarbone injury, Scorpions bring in Scott Campos from National League King’s Lynn as a guest on Friday.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It seems hard to believe that it’s the end of another exciting season already.
“It’s stating the obvious to say that our season has been nowhere near as good as we’d hoped in terms of results.
“But one consolation we have at Scunthorpe is that whether the team wins, or whether it loses, we are guaranteed to be watching some of the best speedway racing you’ll see anywhere. That’s certainly been the case this season.
“And, in recent weeks, we’ve hit our best form of the season. It was great move off the bottom of the league after beating Redcar and move up a couple of places, and now the task is to compete the job and ensure we don’t finish bottom.
“Of course, Rye House, who have replaced us in last place, will have exactly the same ambition, and therefore it’s going to be a hard-fought meeting on Friday.”
There will be a firework display on Friday following the racing, and this is included in the cost of admission, at no extra charge, as a thank you to the clubs’ loyal supporters.
