Scorpions vs Witches heat-by-heat

ALEX SUMMERFIELD captures each heat of Sunday’s enthralling clash between the Scunthorpe Scorpions and the Ipswich Witches.

Heat 1: Ryan Douglas takes control of the race on the exit of the second bend.

Heat 2: Michael Palm Toft leads Joe Jacobs.

Heat 3: Nico Covatti and Alex Davies battling for supremacy early on.

Heat 4: Josh Auty on a charge, after coming through from third to first.

Heat 5: Dirt devils!  Alex Davies (red) and Lewis Kerr (blue) trying to keep back Danny King.  King eventually overhauled Kerr for third place.

Heat 6: An all-action race saw Carl Wilkinson and Ryan Douglas both pass Ben Barker.  Here, Wilko has already charged to the front, while Ryan makes his move.

Heat 7: A second successive 5-1 to Scorpions, as Josh and MPT slam in a maximum.

Heat 8: Carl Wilkinson leads James Sarjeant, while in the background, Josh Bailey bustles under Oliver Greenwood into third place.

Heat 9: Alex in front of Joe Jacobs.

Heat 10: Ryan Douglas and Carl Wilkinson take a 5-1.

Heat 11: Last gasp!  Josh inside James Sarjeant on the final bend, having been third until the last of the final lap.  A brilliant race for the Scorpions’ skipper.

Heat 12: A close race resulted in a morale-boosting victory for Alex.

Heat 13: Josh passes British Champion Danny King for second place, to join Ryan for a 5-1, as Scorpions win the meeting with two races to spare.

Heat 14: Lewis Kerr won this race in fantastic style.  Here, he is about to swoop around Joe Jacobs.

Heat 15: Ryan & Josh complete their maximums.  To show the team spirit in the camp, Ryan allowed his skipper into first place on the final lap, so that Josh could take a full rather than paid maximum.

“Put it there, pal!”  The maximum men celebrate.
