Record entry for Scunthorpe amateur meeting

Sunday 1st May saw the first round of the Scunthorpe Speedway Summer Championship take place at the Eddie Wright Raceway and with the series expanding to twelve classes there were a record 97 entrants and a near-record 110 races. With so many heats the classes were split over two halves with seven classes commencing racing at 11am and the other five after some track work around 3pm. Leading the way in the Open Class was three times Summer Champion Mirek Daniszewski from Krystian Bialecki and Sam Bebee whilst other class winners were Mick Skinner (Support), Craig Nethercott (Novice), Gary O’Hare (Upright), Taylor Hampshire (Youth 500), Leon Flint (Youth 250), Sam McGurk (Youth 125/150), Joe Burden (Flat Track), Craig Atkinson (Road Bikes), Nick Wright (Quad Bikes), Steven Rhodes (Pit Bikes) and Luke Gardner (Junior 110).
After the meeting promoter Rob Godfrey paid credit to everyone involved. “It was a long day but it just ran like clockwork. There was hardly any delays waiting for riders or incidents and my thanks really have to go out to everyone for making it such a success. The volunteers who help us run the meeting are just fantastic whilst the riders were ready with their engines running before the previous race had finished. There help just allows us to run so many classes although we might have to put some limits on entries if they keep increasing. We really can’t run many more heats in a day but we will cross that bridge if we get to it”.
The remaining summer meetings, for all twelve classes, take place on Saturday 21st May, Saturday 18th June, Sunday 31st July, Sunday 28th August and Sunday 25th September.
