DANISH TEENAGER Andreas Lyager is all set to recommence riding for the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions, once Nicolai Klindt’s temporary spell with the club comes to an end.

Lyager, now 18, made four appearances for the Scorpions at the back end at 2015, and impressed the Scunthorpe management and fans, especially when he streaked away to win his first-ever race at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

The surprise retirement of winter signing Taylor Poole in early January left Scorpions needing to make alternative plans, and they quickly snapped up Klindt for the opening few weeks of the season, before his Polish commitments kick in.

Within that first month, Zdenek Holub, who is currently on an assessed seven point average, is due to ride in enough meetings to gain a true average.

Holub rode in two home meetings and one away meeting last season, and is due to complete the necessary four home and four away meetings at Sheffield on Thursday, April 7.

Once Holub has gained a true average, it is highly likely that Lyager can be accommodated in place of Klindt.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Andreas begged us to ride last season, so we gave him a go, and he showed he had what it takes.

“He went in at number three, which is a tough number to ride at, and he beat some quality riders. Despite coming in at a late stage of the season, which is never easy to do, he scored six, five and four from his three home meetings around the Eddie Wright Raceway.

“Andreas has built two new bikes and he is grateful and committed to come and do a good job for us.”

Lyager will come in on an assessed seven point average, and will form part of a powerful top six for the Scorpions, ensuring a trump card at reserve throughout the season.
