Return of the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions

HENDERSON Insurance Broking Group will return as main team sponsors of the Scunthorpe Scorpions in 2016.

When the Scorpions take to the track at Ipswich on March 17th for their opening meeting of the season, it will be under the familiar name, the ‘Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions’, a name supporters will recognise from 2008 to 2013.

Long-time backers the Henderson Insurance Broking Group first sponsored the Scunthorpe Scorpions in 2007, when the club was operating in the Conference League.

They became title sponsors when the North Lincolnshire side joined the Premier League in 2008. The ‘Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions’ memorably won the Premier League championship in 2012.

Following the 2013 season, Hendersons initially stood down from sponsoring the club, and FluidAir Power came on board as title sponsor of the Scorpions. But Hendersons soon returned to sponsor the National League Stags in 2014. And last season, they remained onboard as an invaluable associate sponsor.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “This is fantastic news for Scunthorpe Speedway – it’s a massive boost.

“This is the tenth successive season that Henderson Insurance will sponsor Scunthorpe Speedway.

“At the end of 2013, we thought we were going to lose them. Joe Henderson gave us notice to find someone else as team sponsor, so that’s what we did, but Joe then decided he wanted to carry on with his sponsorship anyway, so he did, as an associate sponsor.

“In the last couple of years, Henderson Insurance have still put a significant amount of money into our club. Joe Henderson was instrumental in keeping us going last summer and he’s helped to put us into a good position ahead of this year.

“Effectively, Joe’s been with us the whole time. He’s backed us for 10 years now and he’s been a very loyal supporter of the club.”

An upbeat Godfrey added: “I’m delighted that we will return to being called the Henderson Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions, and also happy for the club to be associated with such a successful company. Hendersons have recently opened their 14th office; they are going from strength-to-strength.

“As a child, Joe was a Belle Vue fan. So we’re going to arrange for him to receive some tickets for the opening meeting at Belle Vue’s new stadium as a thank you for his invaluable support to the Scunthorpe Scorpions.”
