The final amateur meeting of the year at Scunthorpe Speedway’s Eddie Wright Raceway saw nearly fifty entries compete over five classes. Once again it was the pit bike class that had the largest turnout with twelve riders and it was former Scunthorpe Scorpion Wayne Carter that led the way ahead of his brother Lee and Jeff Robinson. In the Flat Track Class it was Skye Adams who once again led the way ahead of Joe Burden and Connor Jackson whilst in the Youth 500 speedway class it was World 250cc Champion Kyle Bickley who led home Eryk Borczuch and Kean Dicken.

In the Youth 125/150 class it was Harry McGurk who headed home Corban Pavitt and his younger brother, Sam McGurk after Jordan Palin suffered an exclusion for breaking the tapes in the final whilst in the Junior 110 class the podium was filled by Leon Collier, Ryan Ingram and Thomas Tovey after an incident packed final.

On a day when the winter weather gods once again were kind there was 54 races including six demonstration rides by monowheel rider Tom Anable. After the meeting organiser Richard Hollingsworth confirmed it had been a huge success. “We have been blessed so far this winter with some of the best meetings we’ve ever had. Long may it continue! We’ve got the big New Year meeting next Sunday when the adult speedway classes race and there are plenty of riders who’ve been off work for ten days or more and are desperate to get back on their bikes. In particular we are seeing a huge surge in the number of old-style upright bikes coming out. Word is spreading and a lot of people are getting out their old bikes and coming to join the fun. Many of the riders are older than the bikes and there is a great camaraderie between them.

“If anyone else wants to ride next Sunday then I’m taking bookings up to 6pm Saturday if they text or call me on 07832-402167. We are always also looking for people to help run these meetings and we had some fantastic people help us today. Hopefully, we can find a couple more for next Sunday because these meetings are so vital to the club and for the development of British riders in general”
