ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions are seeking to spring a surprise in the Cab Direct Championship at Redcar’s ECCO Arena this evening (Friday, 7.30pm).

Scunthorpe are currently in last place of the league table, but the bottom four teams are only separated by a point. Scorpions have two meetings left – home and away clashes with Redcar Bears – to avoid finishing with the wooden spoon. Bears are on course to qualify for the play-offs.

Scorpions bring in Luke Killeen as a guest for Declan Kennedy, who was injured at Plymouth last Saturday – ironically while guesting himself.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It’s all about pride now and the boys know what we need to do in the final two meetings.

“Redcar are having a much better season than we’ve had, but the matches between the two sides are often close and can belie the league standings. Of course, we don’t want to finish the season bottom of the league.

“Even if we can’t win at Redcar, we want to keep it close, so that we’re in the position to take all three points at the Eddie Wright Raceway next Friday, because the aggregate bonus point could be the difference in avoiding bottom spot.”

For those who cannot make it to Redcar, the British Speedway Network (BSN) are streaming the meeting at: https://watch.britishspeedway.co.uk/

Expected teams for tonight (Friday):

Redcar Bears : 1. Charles Wright (C), 2. Jody Scott, 3. Jason Edwards, 4. Lewis Kerr (G), 5. Danny King, 6. Jake Mulford, 7. Ace Pijper.

Ellie Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Steve Worrall, 2. Zaine Kennedy, 3. Luke Harrison, 4. Connor Mountain, 5. Jake Allen, 6. Luke Killeen (G), 7. Simon Lambert (C).

* ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions are next at home a week tonight (Friday, August 29) at 7.30pm, when they entertain Redcar Bears in the Cab Direct Championship at the Eddie Wright Raceway. It is the final home meeting of the season  for Scorpions.
