WORRALL CAN’T SAVE SCORPIONS AT BERWICK
BERWICK BANDITS 54 SCUNTHORPE SCORPIONS 36 (Cab Direct Championship)
ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions came away with nothing to show for their efforts after a 36-54 defeat in the Cab Direct Championship at Berwick’s Shielfield Park last night (Saturday).
Scunthorpe went into the meeting using rider replacement for Jake Allen, who aggravated a scaphoid injury during Heat 15 at Edinburgh on Friday evening. Allen scored 13+1 at Armadale and was a major miss at Berwick.
Scorpions headed into the meeting with a ten-point aggregate lead for the bonus point. Berwick moved 16-8 ahead after four races, while back-to-back 5-1 in Heats 9 and 10 moved Bandits 39-21 ahead.
Steve Worrall and skipper Simon Lambert were easily the best visitors on display and combined for two 4-2 in Heats 11 and 12. But Berwick clinched the aggregate point with a 4-2 in Heat 14.
Scunthorpe have now slipped to eighth place in the Cab Direct Championship table, ahead of only Workington, and Comets have matches in hand. Scorpions will need positive results in their final two matches of the season, both against Redcar – in Teesside on August 22 and at home at the Eddie Wright Raceway on August 29 – to avoid finishing bottom of the table.
BERWICK 54: Nick Morris 13+1, Drew Kemp 10+1, Peter Kildemand 10+1, Jonas Jeppesen 8+2, Sam Hagon 7, Jack Smith 4+1, Dayle Wood 2.
SCUNTHORPE 36: Steve Worrall 16, Simon Lambert 11, Zaine Kennedy 3+1, Connor Mountain 3, Luke Harrison 2, Declan Kennedy 1+1, Jake Allen r/r.
* ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions are next at home on Friday, August 29 at 7.30pm, when they entertain Redcar Bears in the Cab Direct Championship at the Eddie Wright Raceway. It is the final home meeting of the season for Scorpions.
