BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Scunthorpe v Workington
SCORPIONS OUT TO REGAIN PRIDE AGAINST COMETS
ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking to put three disappointing defeats behind them, when they host the Workington Comets in the Cab Direct Championship at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Friday, August 1) at 7.30pm.
In the last couple of weeks, Scorpions have suffered back-to-back 40-50 reverses at home to Poole and Edinburgh, as well as a heavy 32-58 loss at Workington. The defeats have been a massive blow to Scunthorpe’s hopes of reaching the play-offs.
The result at Northside makes Workington favourites to land the aggregate bonus point, although Scorpions beat Comets by 61-29 at the EWR in the BSN Series back in May.
A victory for Scorpions – dependent on other results – could take the North Lincolnshire side back into the top four.
With the issue of the August Green Sheet averages, both Zaine Kennedy and Luke Harrison move up into the team proper, while Declan Kennedy and skipper Simon Lambert will now occupy the reserve berths.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “I’m sure all the Scunthorpe fans will agree that I hope we see a much-improved Scorpions’ performance and more league points added to our tally against Workington at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
“It’s going to be an interesting meeting and one that is very difficult to predict, because neither team seems to be able to find consistency. We’ve already smashed Workington at the EWR once this season in the BSN Series but against that, they smashed us when we went there in the Cab Direct Championship a couple of weeks ago.
“Mathematically we are not out of the play-off race – but I will be happy to see us put on a decent performance, with some good, entertaining racing, and a home win at the end of it.
“Scunthorpe Speedway is an ideal night out for families – especially at this time of year when the kids want to get out and about. What better than to take them to an evening of thrilling racing? We’ve also got a running race for the kids now.
“We’ve only got one scheduled home meeting left after this – at home to Redcar on August 29. It is the penultimate opportunity to see high-octane speedway racing in Scunthorpe this season.”
For those who cannot make it to the Eddie Wright Raceway, Scorpions are live streaming the meeting for just £12.99 at: https://tv.scunthorpe-speedway.com/
