BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Scunthorpe v Poole

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS IN TOWN, WITH A HUMDINGER ALL SET FOR THE EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY
ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions face runaway league leaders and reigning champions Poole Pirates in a mouth-watering Cab Direct Championship clash at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Friday, July 18) at 7.30pm.
Scorpions moved up to third in the league table, with a 50-40 home victory over Plymouth Gladiators at the EWR last Friday. While Poole have set the pace at the top of the table, Pirates have been, at times, vulnerable on their travels and lost by 12 points at Workington last Saturday.
Both teams are due to be at full strength in one of the most highly-anticipated clashes at the North Lincolnshire venue this year.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Every season, our home match with Poole is one not to be missed at the Eddie Wright Raceway – it’s always a closely-fought match.
“We know we need to be at the top of our game, because Poole have an attractive team, right down to having one of the latest sensations to hit British speedway – the very talented 16-year-old Will Cairns – at No 7.
“But I know if our lads all perform, that the Ellie Rose Travel Scorpions can beat the Pirates. We’ve got ourselves into a play-off position and we intend to stay there.
“We need our loyal fans right behind our lads. I urge them to spread the word and get their family and friends along and show them what a great sport that speedway is, with high-octane excitement and thrills, mixed in with a family-friendly atmosphere. We’ve now got a running race for kids, and all-in-all, it’s going to be a fantastic night of top-class speedway.”
For those who cannot make it to the Eddie Wright Raceway, Scorpions are live streaming the meeting for just £12.99 at: https://tv.scunthorpe-speedway.com/
