ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions won’t go down without a fight in the second leg of their Cab Direct Championship play-off semi-final at Oxford Stadium tomorrow evening (Wednesday) at 7.30pm.

Scunthorpe lost their home leg to Oxford Cheetahs at the Eddie Wright Raceway last Friday by 44-46, despite holding a ten-point lead early in the proceedings. But skipper Simon Lambert and the rest of the Scorpions will do their utmost to cause an upset at Oxford and progress to the final to face Poole Pirates.

Scorpions are at full strength. Cheetahs also have the same team as last Friday – they bring in Dan Gilkes for the injured Jordan Jenkins and use their National League rider Jody Scott for the injured Adam Roynon at No 7.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It’s only half-time and there are another 15 races to go. On paper, many would say Oxford are the favourites to progress to the final, but speedway is not raced on paper.

“Speedway can be unpredictable and our riders will put in 110 per cent and who knows what will happen?”

For those who cannot make it to the Oxford Stadium, British Speedway Network (BSN) are streaming the meeting at: https://watch.britishspeedway.co.uk/

Expected teams for tomorrow (Wednesday):

Monarch Oxford Cheetahs: 1. Sam Masters, 2. Cameron Heeps, 3. Ashton Boughen, 4. Dan Gilkes (guest), 5. Scott Nicholls (captain), 6. Luke Killeen, 7. Jody Scott (guest).

Ellie Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Michael Palm Toft, 2. Connor Mountain, 3. Simon Lambert (captain), 4. Jake Allen,  5. Kyle Howarth, 6. Nathan Ablitt, 7. Luke Harrison.

* ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions are in action at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday (September 20), when they face the Edinburgh Monarchs in the second leg of the BSN Series semi-final. Scunthorpe have a nine-point advantage after a 49-40 away victory at Armadale. The aggregate winners will meet Poole Pirates in the final.
