SCUNTHORPE SCORPIONS 40 POOLE PIRATES 50 (Cab Direct Knockout Cup, semi-final, second leg)

Poole Pirates win 110-69 on aggregate

ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions will look to bounce back, after their defence of the Cab Direct Knockout Cup came to an end, when Poole Pirates became the first visiting side to win this season at the Eddie Wright Raceway last night (Friday).

Poole won by 50-40 on the evening in the second leg of the semi-final and by 110-69 on aggregate, to extract revenge on Scorpions, who defeated Pirates last season in a classic final.

Facing a 31-point deficit from the first leg, Scorpions had little chance of progression. They led 21-15 on the night after six races, but the rest of the evening belonged to Pirates.

Scunthorpe are still chasing silverware on two fronts: in the Cab Direct Championship and the BSN Series. In the BSN Series, they have one foot in the final, after a 49-40 victory at Edinburgh in the first leg of their semi-final.  In the Cab Direct Championship, Scorpions face Oxford Cheetahs in the play-off semi-finals, with the first leg at Cowley next Wednesday (September 11) and the second leg at the Eddie Wright Raceway two days later on Friday, September 13 at 7.30pm.

SCUNTHORPE 40: Jake Allen 9+2, Kyle Howarth 9+1, Simon Lambert 8+1, Connor Mountain 6, Michael Palm Toft 5, Luke Harrison 2, Nathan Ablitt 1+1.
POOLE 50: Ben Cook 11+1, Zach Cook 11, Tom Brennan 10, Richard Lawson 9+1, Tobias Thomsen 5+1, Paul Starke 4+2.
