SCUNTHORPE STAGS are chasing an away victory in the WSRA National League at reigning champions Oxford Chargers tomorrow afternoon (Sunday) at 3pm.

The joint Scunthorpe and Sheffield NL side have been hit with the news that Sheldon Davies has quit.

But he will be replaced at Oxford by unattached rider William Cairns at No 7, who has just turned 15. Cairns is a huge prospect in British Speedway and recently finished third in the SGP3 in Gorzow, Poland – effectively the World Championship for Under-16 riders.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Sheldon Davies notified us that he wants to take some time out of the sport. We have a plan of how we replace him going forwards, but in the meantime, we’re going to give William Cairns his first league meeting in British Speedway at Oxford.

“He’s a special young talent, who has very recently turned 15, and the fans at Oxford will be the first to witness him racing in a league match.

“It’s also likely to make the meeting much more competitive and the Stags can give the Oxford Chargers a run for their money.”

Expected teams for tomorrow afternoon (Sunday):

Real Mini Company Oxford Chargers: 1. Luke Killeen, 2. Alex Spooner, 3. Jason Garrad, 4. Ashton Vale, 5. Jody Scott, 6. Jacob Clouting, 7. Senna Summers.

Scunthorpe Stags: 1. Nathan Ablitt, 2. Kean Dicken (captain), 3. Mickie Simpson, 4. Ace Pijper, 5. Luke Harrison, 6. Stene Pijper, 7. William Cairns (unattached).
