BUMPER NIGHT OF ACTION AT THE EDDIE WRIGHT RACEWAY

ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking to bounce back from a couple of away defeats when they entertain the Edinburgh Monarchs in the Cab Direct Championship at the Eddie Wright Raceway this evening (Friday) at the earlier than usual start-time of 7pm.

There are 30 heats on offer, since in the second half, the Scunthorpe Stags make their seasonal debut at the EWR, when they entertain the Edinburgh Monarchs Academy in the WSRA National League.

Scunthorpe and Sheffield have entered a join team in the 2024 NL and this is first of two home meetings for Stags this season. It is the first league match at this level at Scunthorpe since 2014.

Simon Lambert will switch from captaining the Scorpions in the first meeting, to managing the Stags in the second meeting.

Scorpions’ home form in 2024 has been very strong. They have won all six of their meetings at the EWR, including hitting the sixty-point barrier three times, and Workington are the sole visitors to score 40 points.

Scunthorpe lost 34-56 at Edinburgh last Friday, so will need to hit 57 points to be sure of the aggregate bonus point tonight.

Scorpions again use rider replacement for the injured Michael Palm Toft.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Scorpions will be looking to bank another three league points against the Monarchs, although it won’t be easy after the heavy defeat we suffered at Armadale last Friday.

“We want that bonus point. We are capable of getting it, no question, despite the margin of last Friday’s defeat.

“In any case, it’s going to be a fantastic night of speedway. Josh Pickering is always one of the best visitors around the Eddie Wright Raceway.

“It should be a very enjoyable evening, with 30 heats including Nathan (Ablitt) and Luke (Harrison) leading the Stags in what is bound to be an exciting meeting in the WSRA National League. We’ve kept prices competitive and I hope the fans turn up in force and get behind both Scunthorpe teams.”
