Scorpions look to bounce back after just missing out on points at Redcar
REDCAR BEARS 50 SCUNTHORPE SCORPIONS 40 (PREMIER LEAGUE)
FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions are aiming to bounce immediately back from a 40-50 defeat at Redcar last night (Thursday), when they entertain the Bears in the return Premier League fixture at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (7.30pm).
The Scorpions were in contention for most of the meeting at Redcar last night, with reserve Thomas Jorgensen and David Howe to the fore, with Jorgensen and Howe both defeating home No 1 Richard Lawson during the evening.
The Scorpions could have drawn level with a 4-2 in Heat 11. Although Howe won the race, Nicolai Klindt lost third after suffering an engine failure.
Jorgensen was also suffering machinery problems, and the Scorpions were able to give him only six of a possible seven rides.
Redcar opened a gap with a 5-1 in Heat 12 and a 4-2 in Heat 13.
Jorgensen and Ashley Birks took a 4-2 from Heat 14 to reduce the deficit to six points. Although the chance of winning the meeting had gone, a 3-3 or better from Heat 15 would secure a bonus point for losing by less than six points away from home.
But instead it was the Redcar pair of Aaron Summers and Richard Lawson who took a 5-1.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We wanted a point at least out of yesterday’s meeting, but it was not to be.
“Our attention quickly switches to the home meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight. Redcar took all three points off us yesterday, and we need to return the compliment.
“Redcar are no slouches around our place, with a couple of former Scorpions in the shape of Wilko (Carl Wilkinson) and Jan Graversen in their line-up, and we need a vocal crowd getting behind our lads.
“The weather forecast is set for a glorious evening, and the action on track is set to be just as hot. It should be a cracking night of speedway.”
REDCAR 50: Richard Lawson 11+2, Aaron Summers 11+1, Mark Lemon 10, Jan Graversen 9+1, Hugh Skidmore 5+1, Carl Wilkinson 2+1, Rafal Konopka 2.
SCUNTHORPE 40: Thomas Jorgensen 14+1, David Howe 12, Nicolai Klindt 6, Ashley Birks 3, Ryan Douglas 3, Matt Williamson 2+1, Josh Auty r/r.
