Scorpions’ opener moved back to Sunday
ATTIS INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions’ opening meeting of the season at the Eddie Wright Raceway against Plymouth Gladiators has been moved back to Sunday (May 23) at 3pm.
The meeting was due to take place tomorrow evening (Friday), but heavy showers today plus the forecast of more showers tomorrow – in particular, during tomorrow evening – have put paid to that.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to the Plymouth promotion for their full co-operation on agreeing to move our meeting to Sunday afternoon, when it became apparent that we wouldn’t be able to get a meeting on tomorrow (Friday) evening.
“I didn’t want our supporters to have to wait another whole week to see some speedway, after such a long break. We know from very encouraging online ticket sales how many fans are keen to see some action. To be honest, I didn’t want to wait for another week either – I can’t wait to see a league match at the Eddie Wright Raceway featuring the 2021 Attis Insurance Scunthorpe Scorpions!
“The new date and time might even tempt a few fans along from the Plymouth area.”
The mouth-watering clash pits Scorpions, led by No 1 Josh Auty and skippered by Simon Lambert, and also featuring Thomas Jorgensen, Tero Aarnio, Theo Pijper, Josh MacDonald and Jordan Palin, action against a Gladiators side led by three-time World Champion Jason Crump and Danish World Cup winner Bjarne Pedersen.
