HEB Scunthorpe Scorpions can move back into sixth place in the Championship table, if they pick up a league point or more in their away meeting at Berwick’s Shielfield Park tonight (Wednesday, 7.30pm).

Scorpions will use rider replacement in place of broken leg victim Danny Ayres, while Bandits also use the facility for an injured rider – Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “With Danny ruled out for the rest of the season, I looked into the possibility of making a new signing, but it’s not really feasible, because it’s getting towards the end of the season and we don’t have that many meetings left.

“Our approach to the Berwick meeting is similar to any away meeting, in that we’ll see if we can win it and, if not, we’ll try to come out of it with at least the losing bonus point for keeping within six points of the Bandits.”

It is the first of two meetings involving Scorpions this week. They also host the Newcastle Diamonds at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday evening (7.30pm), in an intriguing encounter, due to four ex-Scunthorpe riders lining up for Diamonds.

Expected teams for tonight:

Berwick Bandits: 1. Aaron Summers, 2. Jye Etheridge, 3. Dany Gappmaier, 4. Kevin Doolan, 5. Rider replacement for Nikolaj Busk Jakobsen, 6. Coty Garcia, 7. Leon Flint.

HEB Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Jake Allen (captain), 2. Rider replacement for Danny Ayres, 3. Stefan Nielsen, 4. Josh Auty, 5. Ben Barker, 6. Ryan Kinsley, 7. Simon Lambert.
