EDINBURGH MONARCHS 53 SCUNTHORPE SCORPIONS 37 (CHAMPIONSHIP)

HEB Scunthorpe Scorpions returned home from north of the border with nothing to show for their efforts after a 37-53 loss at Edinburgh’s Armadale Stadium last night (Friday).

It is a result that will make Scorpions doubly determined to hit back against the Monarchs when the two sides again clash at the Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow (Sunday, August 4th) at 5.30pm.

Scorpions suffered the loss, despite another top-notch performance from Danny Ayres, who won two races and scored 12 points. Ayres is currently on a high, after his thrilling performance in the British Final at Belle Vue on Monday.

Ayres joined Simon Lambert for a 5-1 in Heat 8, as both overhauled new Edinburgh signing James Sarjeant. That reduced Scorpions’ deficit to four points, but Monarchs then pulled away with two successive maximums.

Ayres wrecked the maximum hopes of Ricky Wells in Heat 15, but no-one could stop Monarchs’ No 1 Sam Masters from registering a paid maximum.

Lambert also had a good night, notching 9+1 – Scorpions outscored the home team by 11 to 3 at reserve.

Ben Barker started the meeting well, and eventually collected 8 points from six rides.

EDINBURGH 53: Sam Masters 14+1, Ricky Wells 12+1, Cameron Heeps 10, Josh Pickering 9+1, James Sarjeant 5+1, William Lawson 3, Connor Coles 0.
SCUNTHORPE 37: Danny Ayres 12, Simon Lambert 9+1, Ben Barker 8, Josh Auty 4+2, Ryan Kinsley 2+1, Stefan Nielsen 1+1, Jake Allen 1.

* RASMUS JENSEN will guest for Monarchs in place of Sam Masters, who has another commitment, when the two sides clash again in a mouth-watering clash at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (5.30pm).
