Ben remains with Scorpions
HEB Scunthorpe Scorpions have confirmed that Ben Barker will be staying with the club for the rest of the season.
The Cornishman, who joined the side at the beginning of the month on a temporary deal as cover for the injured Jason Garrity, has agreed to extend his stay at the Eddie Wright Raceway.
It means there is no room in the one-to-seven to accommodate Garrity’s return but the Mancunian, who is now fully fit again, has already been snapped up by injury-hit Birmingham. He is poised to make his debut for the Brummies in their home Championship match against Somerset on Wednesday.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Ben has been excellent for us since he joined the club and he has scored, or been paid for, double figures in all of his four matches for us so far.
“He’s been riding like a number one and we’d be daft not to keep him in the side when he’s scoring like that.
“We know we need to pick up more away wins if we are to qualify for the play-offs and Ben, with his experience of all the away tracks and scoring power, is hopefully the man to help us do that.
“Jason leaves us with our best wishes and we thank him for his efforts for the team in the last two seasons. I’m pleased for him that’s managed to find a new club already and I hope he can make a success of his time with Birmingham.”
