HEB Scunthorpe Scorpions’ Danny Ayres qualified for his first-ever British Final, after finishing third in the British Semi-Final at Redcar last night (Friday).

Ayres was called up into the meeting as a late replacement, and collected a dozen points, including three race victories.

It was a night of mixed fortunes for the four-strong Scunthorpe contingent. While there was delight for Ayres, Josh Auty and Stefan Nielsen missed the cut after scoring five points apiece.

Meanwhile, Jason Garrity was taken to hospital, after sustaining an arm injury in a horror smash in Heat 1, which also saw Sheffield’s Kyle Howarth withdraw from the meeting. Both riders are doubtful for Sunday’s Sheffield v Scunthorpe derby clash.

1. Charles Wright 14
2. Richie Worrall 13
