There were over seventy entries for the latest round of Scunthorpe Speedway’s Summer Championship last weekend but it was one of the three females taking part who dominated proceedings. In the morning Skye Adams won all five of the flat track class races before winning two of the six pit bike races in the second half of the meeting, along with finishing second in three other races, to lead a record eighteen rider field.

After the meeting Adams declared “The day was one to remember. At times the track was very physically demanding but I managed to cope with the changing conditions. It was a great days racing and everyone did amazingly well. I’d really like to thank everyone who helps make these days happen”.

Meeting organiser Richard Hollingsworth responded by stating “Skye is a special rider. Today, due to the high numbers in her classes there were three rows on all of the grids and she won a race in each class from the back row. That’s no mean feat at all and there is little doubt she is a highly talented motorcycle rider. Her first races at Scunthorpe were over three years ago when we introduced the Junior 110 class and she has come a very long way in that time. I know her dad feels our meetings have played a part in here development as a rider and there are other very talented flat trackers like George Hopper and Joe Burden who have also come through that class whilst young speedway riders like Luke Harrison and Sam McGurk have also gone on to do well in youth speedway after starting out in that class. It’s great to see and it is obvious there are more on their way”.

Over the day there were eleven classes run in total with the ever-green Mirek Daniszewski defeating his ever-pressing compatriot Krystian Bialecki in the Open speedway class, Mick Skinner dominating the Support Class for the umpteenth time and Joe Alcock winning a highly competitive Novice Class at his first attempt. In the final adult speedway class (the Upright engine class) it was Gary O’Hare who once again went through the card with Lee Coleman continuing his efforts to find a way of defeating him and Graham Knowler completing the podium.

In the youth speedway classes Luke Woodhull, and his twin brother Ben in one race, registered some super quick times on his 500 whilst Jordan Palin and Harry McGurk were set to go head-to-head for the fourth time on the day in the Youth 125/150 ‘A’ Final before an injury in the Pit Bike ‘A’ final brought an early close to proceedings. Palin had won two out of their first three duels to claim the round win but Mickie Simpson and Harry’s brother Sam might also have had something to say about how the trophies had been dished out should the ‘A’ Final have taken place.

The Quad Bike class saw six entries and produced some great racing with Nick Wright edging out Joe Hodgson and Chris Wright for victory whilst Archie Jeeves, Jon Lawson and Jeff Tuttlebee were the top three in the road bike class. Although entrants in both these classes were modest there is a real feel that they will continue to grow with a number of people trying to source cheap bikes to ride in the road class.

In the Junior 110 class it was Luke Gardner, Teddy Wilkinson and Max McGurk who led the way whilst the best challengers to Skye Adams’ dominance in the two classes she won were Joe Burden and Peter Jordan in the Flat Track class plus Tom Stokes and Lee Carter in the pit bikes.

Unfortunately a couple of riders had heavy falls and everyone at the club sends their best wishes to Adam Grice who was racing in the flat track class but broke his collarbone and a rib and Simon Ellis whose helmet did a great job of protecting his head in the ‘A’ final of the pit bike class. Get well soon guys!

The next meeting at Scunthorpe is on Sunday 28th August and bookings can be made by texting Richard Hollingsworth on 07832-402167 or emailing him at richard@scunthorpespeedway.com
