HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions will seek to end a run of five defeats when they entertain the Rye House Rockets at the Eddie Wright Raceway on Sunday (6.30pm).

Recent signing Lewis Kerr is set to make a belated home debut for the Scorpions, following the postponement of last weekend’s clash with Edinburgh.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “Our defeat at Workington last week was our fifth on the bounce, so it’s certainly about time that we called a halt to that bad run and got another three points on the board by beating Rye House.

“It will be the first chance to see Lewis Kerr in action at the Eddie Wright Raceway as a Scorpion. I had my heart-in-my-mouth for a moment in the rain-effected meeting at Workington. Lewis took a pearler over the handlebars, after he had to take off his goggles, because he couldn’t see. Fortunately he was OK and able to complete the meeting.

“Rye House are a good side and are sure to give us a great match on Sunday, but if we can get everyone firing, we are fully capable of winning and starting to climb up the table.”

Scorpions’ Skipper Josh Auty put in a highly creditable performance in the British Final at Belle Vue on Monday, finishing eighth with 8 points and just missing out on reaching the semi-finals.

There are 24 heats of action in total on Sunday, with a nine-race second half including a six-heat Northern Junior League match between Halifax and Northside.
