HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions have moved quickly to sign up talented Englishman Lewis Kerr, following the shock departure of Dane Andreas Lyager from the club.

26-year-old Kerr was recently released by Ipswich Witches, so that they could accommodate Ben Barker in their side, who in turn had been released by Glasgow to fit in Rene Bach.

Kerr has made an astonishing comeback this season from a horrifying crash at the Premier League Fours at Peterborough last August, which saw him initially placed in an induced coma, but released from Addenbrookes Hospital within ten days of admission.

The Norfolk-born rider scored a fine 11 points from 5 rides for Ipswich at the Eddie Wright Raceway in March, defeating every Scorpion with the exception of Ryan Douglas, while he also rides this season for Lakeside in the Elite League.

Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “I’m delighted to welcome Lewis Kerr to Scunthorpe Speedway.

“He’s a talented rider who likes our track, and I’m sure he will prove to be a fine addition to our team.

“He wasn’t released by Ipswich because he was doing badly; he was released because of the numbers game. I’m sure he’ll have a point to prove.

“Lewis is a likeable British lad, who will score points everywhere.

“His signing adds extra strength to our team. There will be a feeling of more confidence in the camp going forward.”
