HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are set to return to full strength, when they host the Peterborough Panthers in Premier League action at the Eddie Wright Raceway in a packed Bank Holiday Monday afternoon of speedway (start-time 2pm).

The fixture is a 42-race double-header, also containing the second part to Round 2 of the British Youth Championship, with the 250cc and 125cc classes on display in a 27-heat second half.

18-year-old Dane Andreas Lyager is set to make a belated seasonal debut for Scorpions, after recovering from a virus that ruled him out of last week’s clash with Sheffield. Meanwhile, Carl Wilkinson is due to return from a wrist injury.

Peterborough won 57-36 at the Eddie Wright Raceway in the League Cup earlier in the season, but bring back an almost unidentifiable side, with four riders who scored 41 points between them on that previous visit missing for Panthers this time around.

Michael Palm Toft will ride for the Scorpions, against the club who dropped him a few weeks ago. He was released so that Panthers could accommodate Craig Cook, but ironically Cook is unavailable on Monday.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It’s two very different sides from our League Cup clash with Peterborough in early April, and we’re after a very different result as well.

“We want to get the three league points on board and start climbing the table.

“It’s going to be a packed and enjoyable afternoon of speedway, and I hope the supporters will stick around to watch the youngsters in the British Youth Championship. We had the other two classes during the last Bank Holiday meeting, and the youngsters put on a great show; I have no doubts that the riders from the remaining two classes will do the same.”

The Scunthorpe vs Peterborough meeting commences the afternoon’s action at 2pm, an hour earlier than the usual start-time for Bank Holiday meetings at the EWR. This is to accommodate Peterborough, who also have a home fixture later the same day.

Bank Holiday Monday’s adult admission price for the double-header is £17. It’s just £2 more than a single Premier League meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway, for 27 extra heats of action. A full and exciting afternoon of racing is ahead. DON’T MISS IT!
