HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions return to action on Sunday (May 22, 6.30pm), when local rivals Sheffield Tigers provide the opposition in a mouth-watering looking derby clash at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

Meanwhile, Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey is staying tight-lipped about any new signings… for just a few more days.

The plan is to reveal Scunthorpe’s new-look line-up on Thursday, by which time it will have been fully ratified by the BSPA.

Godfrey said: “I’m not saying anything until then, although one of the new signings will surprise no-one who’s been reading my comments in the Speedway Star, Scunthorpe Telegraph or my programme notes this season.

“I can confirm one of the riders coming out of the team is Ashley Morris.

“I’d like to thank Ash for his efforts during his short stay with us; he scored points and did the job that we asked of him.

“I’m sure he will get another Premier League team place very soon, but unfortunately his average didn’t fit in with our plans to get a big hitter back down to No 6.”

The clash against Sheffield promises to a belter. Tigers’ trio of Simon Stead, Kyle Howarth and Jason Garrity finished first, third and fourth respectively in last week’s brilliant British Semi-Final at Scunthorpe.

In fact, along with Scunthorpe skipper Josh Auty, the top four from that semi-final are all back on display on Sunday.

“We’ll have the whole Scunthorpe team practising at the track earlier in the day in a behind closed doors session”, revealed Godfrey. “For the lads coming in, it’s invaluable track time, while it’s a chance for the rest of the lads to sort out any issues. We need to be at our best to beat Sheffield and that’s what we intend to be.

“Hopefully the racing will be as good as the British Semi, which was just amazing, while our priority is get a win out of the meeting.”
