SCUNTHORPE Speedway proudly stages a semi-final of the British Championship at the Eddie Wright Raceway tonight (Friday, 7.30pm), the biggest meeting at the venue in Normanby Road for five years.

The meeting is a top-class 20-heat individual, which will see 16 riders in fierce competition, with just the top seven guaranteed a place in the British Final at Belle Vue in Manchester on June 13.

A top quality line-up is headed by Grand Prix star Chris ‘Bomber’ Harris, a three times British Champion. Other leading contenders will be Simon Stead, Robert Lambert, Jason Garrity and Scorpions’ own No 1 Josh Auty.

But there is quality throughout the whole line-up – no fewer than nine riders have won a British Championship at some stage of their career, whether at Under-15, Under-19, Under-21 or senior level.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We’re very proud to be staging tonight’s event. It is bound to be hotly contested.

“There are a lot of track specialists on show. Anyone can get that top-seven position and I think it will be a cracking meeting.

“With a field of out-and-out racers, such as Chris Harris and Josh Auty, we can expect speedway of the highest quality tonight.”
