HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking to build up a first leg lead against the Newcastle Diamonds in the Knockout Cup at the Eddie Wright Raceway in Normandy Road this afternoon (Bank Holiday Monday, 3pm). The cup match forms part of a packed 36-race programme, along with Round Two of the British Youth Championship for the 500cc and 150cc classes.

The Scorpions are due to be at full strength, although one concern is that Alex Davies hurt his coccyx in a fall in the defeat at Berwick on Saturday evening.

Newcastle were due to be missing three riders, but following the early postponement of the Belle Vue vs King’s Lynn meeting, are now expected to track a full side. Their No 1, exciting British teenager Robert Lambert, is set to make his debut at the Eddie Wright Raceway.

The Diamonds also track new signing Viktor Palovaara.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “It promises to be a thrilling afternoon’s action.

“Newcastle have got a strong team this year, no doubt about that, so it’s a tough draw and we’re going to need everyone on the gas, if we’re to have a chance of getting through to the second round.

“I can’t wait to see our lads doing battle with the likes of Robert Lambert around the Eddie Wright Raceway – it’s going to be top entertainment.

“With the cream of Britain’s youngsters in the British Youth Championship at 500cc and 150cc level also on display, it’s going to be a great afternoon of speedway.”

This afternoon’s adult admission price for the double-header is £17. It’s just £2 more than a single Premier League meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway, for 21 extra heats of action.

Admission prices for this afternoon:

Child (10 – 17): £5.00
