Scorpions vs Devils heat-by-heat
ALEX SUMMERFIELD captures each heat of Sunday’s Scunthorpe vs Plymouth Premier League match.
Heat 1: Josh Auty & Carl Wilkinson get the Scorpions off to a perfect start.
Heat 2: Josh Bailey & Ashley Morris follow up with another 5-1. It was Josh’s first heat win in Scorpions’ colours.
Heat 3: The Devils hit back with a 4-2. Here, second-placed Ryan Douglas and third-placed Jack Holder are captured in action.
Heat 4: Wilko wins again. In the background, Kyle Newman and Josh B commence a race-long battle for third place.
Heat 5: Alex & Ryan fill the minor positions, in a 3-3, as the Scorpions maintain a six-point lead.
Heat 6: Josh got this close to a paid maximum. He pressures Kyle Newman for second place, but Newman holds on. Race-leader Wilko has gone.
Heat 7: A storming ride from behind by Josh Auty. Here he passes Todd Kurtz to take the lead.
Heat 8: Wilko launches it inside Sam Simota on the pit bend, to take the lead.
Heat 9: Ryan chasing Stefan Nielsen in what was a tremendous battle.
Heat 10: Both Wilko and Todd Kurtz lift coming off the start-line. Josh and Wilko took a 5-1, to extend the Scuuny lead to 12 points.
Heat 11: An eventful race, which saw Ashley Morris excluded for a fall and then Alex Davies nudge the tapes. Alex was placed off a 15m handicap, and produced a charging ride. He flew around Sam Simota (yellow) to avoid a 8-1 to the Devils.
Heat 12: Alex boxed in on the first turn of Heat 12. He came through to take second, as Plymouth narrowed the gap to five points.
Heat 13: With Josh Auty out front, Kyle Newman found himself under considerable pressure for second place from Ryan Douglas. Ryan made it through at one point, but Newman won the battle.
Heat 14: Stefan Nielsen under pressure from Josh B and Ryan in Heat 14. Nielsen held on, but the 3-3 clinched the win for the Scorpions.
Heat 15: Wilko comes up to the tapes on a paid maximum. But his bike wasn’t right from the moment the tapes went up and he retired on the opening lap. Josh soon took the lead, to ensure the Devils did not gain a league point from the meeting.
