PLYMOUTH POSTER

HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions entertain Plymouth Devils, our old sparring partners from our Conference League days, at the Eddie Wright Raceway this evening (6.30pm) in our opening Premier League fixture.

A great evening’s action is ahead, as the Scorpions aim to get some league points on the board.

Promoter Rob Godfrey told our friends at the Scunthorpe Telegraph: “We cannot afford to give anything away. We are still hampered at the minute but getting the three points is an achievable goal.

“We need to build the momentum up, deal with the problems we have got and get as many points on the board as we can.”

The Scorpions will hope to take advantage of Plymouth’s lack of track time, as the Devils were in real danger of closing down, before they were saved a couple of weeks ago.

As a consequence the Devon club have only ridden in two matches so far, losing them both.

“We are up to speed at the moment so we have to try and take advantage of their lack of track time,” Godfrey said.

“We need to try and put points on the board when we are at our most vulnerable because it should get easier after that.

“We were in a tough League Cup group against sides who you expect to be up at the top of the table, but there are another nine teams in the division.”
