Scorpions open league campaign tonight

HENDERSON INSURANCE Scunthorpe Scorpions open their Premier League fixtures with an away visit to Somerset Rebels tonight (Friday, 7.30pm).
Czech international Zdenek Holub is still missing with a shoulder injury, and the Scorpions will again use the rider replacement facility for him.
The Scorpions are looking to bounce back from a 21-point home defeat to Peterborough suffered last Sunday, which concluded an up-and-down League Cup campaign.
The Rebels include Australian bad boy Rohan Tungate in their side. The controversial Tungate was handed a 21-day-ban last season, after a post-race incident at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway left Scorpions’ No 1 Josh Auty with a broken hand.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “Tonight marks the start of our Premier League fixtures and I don’t see any reason why we can’t give the Rebels a match and take something from the meeting.
“Alex Davies used to ride for Somerset and he knows the place very well, plus we have a number of other riders who go well around the Oak Tree Arena.
“Peterborough came to us on Sunday on the back of a home defeat, with a point to prove. Likewise we’ll be heading to Somerset tonight, with our lads out to prove that they are a better side than we saw on Sunday.”

* JOSH BAILEY scored three points in the British Under-21 Final at Sheffield last night (Thursday). The meeting was won by former Scorpion Josh Bates. There was a sensational performance from Scunthorpe Stags’ MDL team member, Jack Parkinson-Blackburn, who finished fourth after reaching the final.
