SCUNTHORPE SCORPIONS’ number one Josh Auty has been installed as the new skipper of the Premier League side.

25-year-old Auty has won three league titles with Scunthorpe (Conference League titles in 2006 and 2007 and the Premier League championship in 2012), more than any other rider.

He made his debut for the Scorpions just after his 15th birthday in September 2005, and is about to start the fifth season of his second spell at the club and his eighth in total.

The Yorkshireman suffered an injury-hit 2015 season, making just one appearance post-May, but is determined to enjoy a good season in 2016.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “I’ve spoken to Josh, and he is up for the challenge of being team captain.

“He not only wants a good season for himself, but also for Scunthorpe.

“He has a wealth of experience of riding for the Scorpions, and I’m sure he will make a terrific leader. He is Scunthorpe Speedway through-and-through and our fans love him.

“I’m looking for the Scorpions to have a successful season and to be in the mix for honours and Josh is too.”
