FLUIDAIR POWER Scunthorpe Scorpions, supported by Henderson Insurance, are involved in their final home meeting of the season at the Eddie Wright Raceway this evening (Friday, 7.30pm), with the Plymouth Devils as the visitors.

Scunthorpe lost 30-62 at Plymouth last night, but tonight’s return encounter promises to be much closer.

With young Dane Andreas Lyager representing his country and both Zdenek Holub and Theo Pijper sidelined through injury, the Scorpions bring in the Sheffield pair of Andre Compton and David Bellego as guests.

Plymouth are currently three points behind sixth-placed Ipswich Witches in the league table, and require a combined total of four league points from tonight and their visit to Rye House tomorrow, to edge the Witches out of the final play-off spot. The Devils could qualify tonight, with a win or seven points or more.

Meanwhile, the Scorpions can overtake 11th-placed Rye House in the league table with a victory tonight.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Although we’re down to four of our own riders, we’ve got a couple of guests in Andre Compton and David Bellego who know the fastest way around this track.

“If we can score solidly down the line, plus we have a trump card at reserve in Alex Davies, then we can beat the Devils.

“It should be a terrific final meeting of the season at the Eddie Wright Raceway. Both teams will be determined to take the victory; Plymouth because they can win a place in the play-offs, while we want to finish our season with a nap hand of five successive home victories.

“The weather is also set fair, and I think it’s going to be a great night of speedway that no-one will want to miss.”
